When talking about African safaris the first thing that comes to mind are the beautiful and exotic animals and in particular the animals which are called the Big Five. These animals are lions, leopards, rhinoceroses, elephants, and buffaloes. Spotting them is one of the main reasons to visit some of the national parks in Africa. It's a breath-taking experience to see these animals in the wild and in their natural habitats mingling with each other. With a jeep and armed with a pair of binoculars and a camera you’ll be ready to search for them and document them for your future cherished memories.
This large national game reserve in Narok, Kenya is also known by the name Masai Mara. This name was chosen in honor of the original aboriginal Maasai people who are living there. Its beautiful history tells the story of migration and the existence of this well preserved natural area. Important animals living here are lions, leopards, cheetahs and the African bush elephants. It also hosts the Great Migration of wildebeest, one of the natural wonders of the world and an incredible event to experience at least once in your life time. The amount of wildlife population in this nature reserve is staggering, the park contains over a millions of wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of Thomson's gazelles, thousands of zebras and much more. The chance to spot wild animals here is pretty much guaranteed.
Safaris are commonly known as typical African affairs, but that does not mean you can only see wild animals in Africa. All over the world there are various nature reserves where you can have safari-like experiences and unforgettable encounters with the most unique and exciting wildlife. Take India, for example, where in some national parks it is possible to track the elusive Bengal tiger. These shy animals are endangered and very hard to spot, but with a local expert ranger you might get lucky and encounter one. Book early as there is a limit of people allowed in this park. Further south, in Indonesia, you can take a boat trip to the remote Komodo Islands and spot these giant lizards bathing in the sun or even feasting on a buffalo. In South America, there are many opportunities for safari-like trips as well. Discover the Amazon, for example, and the beauty of the rainforest and the animals that live within it.
