Tour Description

Kilimanjaro National Park covers an area of about 75,575 ha and protects the largest free standing volcanic mass in the world and the highest mountain in Africa, it rises 4877m above surrounding plains to 5895m at its peak. With its snow-capped peak, the Kilimanjaro is a superlative natural phenomenon, standing in isolation above the surrounding plains overlooking the savannah. Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes in the world. It has three main volcanic peaks, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. With its snow-capped peak and glaciers, it is the highest mountain in Africa.

The mountain has five main vegetation zones from the lowest to the highest point: Lower slopes, montane forest, heath and moorland, alpine desert and summit. The whole mountain including the montane forest belt is very rich in species, in particular mammals, many of them endangered species.

For this combination of features but mostly its height, its physical form and snow cap and its isolation above the surrounding plains, Mount Kilimanjaro is considered an outstanding example of a superlative natural phenomenon.

The park has six major routes to its peak and one for descend only. The Machame Route, also known as the Whisky Route, is one of the most scenic and therefore popular routes on the mountain due to its scenic beauty. The route is done over longer periods and the incline is more manageable it has a much higher success rate of summit.

The Marangu route, also known as coca –cola route. It’s the oldest route use for hiking Kilimanjaro. It’s an easier option for hiking as it has a permanent dormitory sleeping huts for its climbers.

Umbwe route, is the one of the hardest route and normally used by technical climbers. It is the shortest route to the peak with very little time for acclimatization. It’s the least used route trail of all as it needs patient and physical endurance.

Rongai route is on the north – Eastern side of the mountain bordering Tanzania and Kenya. It’s a little hard and longest route to the peak but most success route beside Lemosho route. Its trail is easy to climb steady and gradually to the top. It’s best for new hiker and those looking for less overcrowded route.

Lemosho is considered the most beautiful route on Kilimanjaro and grants panoramic vistas on various sides of the mountain. It is our favorite route because it offers a great balance of low traffic, scenic views and a high summit success rate. The trek starts at Londorossi Gate. You climb to the summit and then descend through Mweka Gate.
