Argentina is an stress-free, affordable and beautiful place to visit and often the starting point of a journey through South America. From bustling Buenos Aires to the Perito Moreno glacier, the immense waterfalls of Iguazú in the north and the bizarre landscapes and sweeping vistas of Patagonia in the south, the lush vineyards, desert-like gorges and penguin-populated beaches. It is easy to be impressed by the views of this South American country, but Argentina offers more than just natural beauty. The hospitality of its people give the country a special colour and it really has a lot to offer travelers. Fortunately, traveling through this country is surprisingly easy and relaxed. You can take a plane or bus to almost anywhere.

The charm of South America

The capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires, is one of the nicest cities in South America. An ideal place to start your journey and get used to the Latin lifestyle. For fans of outdoor activities, there are scenic natural areas suitable for hiking, mountain biking, rafting, horseback riding, and more. A trip through Argentina will bring you also in contact with gauchos, South American cowboys, who drive their cattle on the vast fertile pampas. It is a country you see, feel, and taste as well. Argentina Highlights

Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires ranks among the most beautiful of South American capitals. It’s a huge city that never gets boring and never sleeps. The city has fancy restaurants, hip bars, wonderful cafés and chic night clubs. For the dancers among us, tango is extremely popular here. While exploring Buenos Aires, you can sense its history in the architectural style, which are influenced by European history. The city is divided into barrios, neighborhoods with their own character. La Boca is probably one of the most famous barrios, with streets decorated with colorful art and cute little shops and cafés. In the center, nearby Plaza de Mayo, you’ll find the old part of the city with many interesting buildings. But if you’re looking for traditional markets and more than San Telmo might be something for you. Whatever you’ll end up doing, you’ll know that Buenos Aires is a sparkling and trendy city. There is a lot to occupy you for a while, regardless of your interests.

Iguazú Falls

The raw power and overwhelming beauty of the Iguazú Falls are unparalleled. A natural wonder of the world. And a visit to this remote rainforest location on the border of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil should not be missed on your trip through this country. The Iguazú Falls consist of a group of about 275 spectacular waterfalls with a total width of about 3 kilometers. You’ll hear the deafening sound of the falls long before you see them. Seeing the 'Garganta del Diablo' (Devil’s Throat) waterfall in real life is not something you’ll forget easily.

Los Glaciares National Park

The Los Glaciares National Park in the Andes is a stunning national park with the most impressive and accessible glaciers on Earth. The Glaciar Perito Moreno is often regarded as the highlight of this park, although there are many more glaciers in the park. Some glaciers have dramatic icefalls from their walls. In the park you can also find lakes, snowy peaks, and natural forests. The forests are home to many endemic birds as well. And due to its natural beauty and abundance of outdoor activities such as hiking, rafting and mountain climbing, it is not without reason a popular destination among tourists from all over the world.

Top things to do in Argentina

Valdes Peninsula

The Valdes Peninsula is located on the southern coast of Argentina in a region called Patagonia. It is an incredible nature reserve rich in rare wildlife such as (killer) whales, penguins, sea lions and elephant seals. The beaches and waters in this area are beautiful and for the most part still natural. Various day trips are available here. It is a sparsely populated area and it is known as one of the most important and beautiful national parks in South America.

Wine tasting around Mendoza

Wine lovers will undoubtedly have heard about Mendoza, because this is the famous wine region of Argentina. You can find more than 1,000 excellent bodegas (wineries) here, in many of them you can overnight as well. Mendoza itself is also scenic and beautiful, but most people come here to experience the wine country. The city, located at the foot of the Andes mountains, was destroyed by the earthquake of 1861, but has been rebuilt and during the reconstruction extra attention was paid to decorations such as tiles, murals, statues and fountains. This gives the city a beautiful atmosphere.

Tierra del Fuego

Tierra del Fuego is a national park at the most southern tip of Argentina. The entire area is actually an island, or several islands, just below Patagonia. Here you will find one of the most isolated, pristine and breathtaking natural areas on the planet. Tierra del Fuego is not only located in Argentina, this special area is shared with Chile. The western side of Tierra del Fuego belongs to Chile. The eastern side belongs to Argentina. While it is expensive and time consuming to get there, you will be rewarded with beautiful mountain scenery and wildlife. It is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.

Gaucho culture

When you think of Argentina, perhaps you’ll also think of the vast pampas with its gauchos (South American cowboys), horses and empty plains. These areas of Argentina starts just outside the bustling capital of Buenos Aires. There you can find gauchos and you can participate in various activities such as horse riding, cycling or walking around the beautiful grounds. You will also enjoy typical Argentinian meals in this area and learn more about their way of life and history.

Bariloche

Bariloche is located along the shore of the clear watered glacial Nahuel Huapi Lake, in the middle of the Rio Negro National Park. It is actually called San Carlos de Bariloche and it is one of the most beautiful cities in South America. The city has strong influences from various European countries and this is clearly reflected in the Swiss alpine-style architecture. This, combined with the many summer and winter activities and the unique landscape, makes it a popular destination in Argentina.
